Ep #10: Leadership During Crises: Practical Advice from a Professional Negotiator with Moty Cristal

Leadership is challenging even during the easiest of days, but how can you be an inspirational leader during a global pandemic? Today I am joined by Moty Cristal, one of my closest friends and someone I frequently turn to for advice, to discuss how to lead during a crisis. Moty is the founder and CEO of NEST – Negotiation Strategies, a global consulting company that provides complex negotiations and crisis management training, consulting, and operational support to executives in the corporate world.

Listen in as we talk about how to steer through a crisis within your business, whether it’s a financial disaster, cyber attack, or—in this case—a virus outbreak. During times of crisis, managers are often required to take quick and aggressive decisions, but even then, Moty explains the importance of a collaborative communication style with employees and coworkers.

Moty talks about the importance of assigning one or a few people in the company during a crises, who will be responsible to monitor the flow of events and information that is often over whelming. They should be responsible for screening out the noise, and presenting to the decision maker the most important things that require reaction.

Moty talks about the elements that build resilience in companies at time of crises, a curial one being the legitimacy that the team sees in the manager’s decision making motives. In crises it’s more critical than ever that the team will feel that the manager’s top priority is the good of the company and not his/her own personal gain.
